When Kumu on the front lines of education told us, “We need digital curriculum for our classrooms”, we set out to create a solution. We decided to take on this vast project because, at Kumu Cards, we recognize that digitizing educational content has the potential to benefit not only Kumu and keiki, but also our community as a whole by making the Hawaiian language more accessible to all. To solve this complex problem, we developed a plan. Our first product, Hawaiian flash cards, represents the first step, the baseline upon which to build, and the first piece of the puzzle. Once we have created enough beautiful content, we will digitize them and create a “Rosetta Stone” for the Hawaiian language. This project is immense and, creating products which align with our values and vision while also generating revenue, is one of the ways our small, family-owned business can bring our vision to life.

Our goal is to house the most comprehensive, open source, online resource on our Learn page, with the promise to allow access to anyone who seeks to utilize it, free of charge.
